Full Description
WWII military site visible on aerial photography taken in 1942 [1], located in Walmer. This site measured 70 x 70m at maximum dimensions. It was comprised of a slit trench measuring 46 x 13m, a small c-shaped bank open to the S and an enclosing bank which zigzagged around the site in the N,W and S. The E side was enclosed by an existing field boundary. The slit trench and small internal bank were still visible on aerial photographs taken in 1946 [2], but the outer bank was no longer visible. Next Perspectives photography taken in 2003 [3] showed the site to be absent.
To the WNW lay WWII earthworks (MWX43675).
A transcription of the features recorded from aerial photographs exists within a GIS layer held by this HER.
