Full Description
A lifeboat house, located on the coast just north of Dungeness, is only visible on the Epoch 3 (1908) edition of the historic 1:2500 Ordnance Survey mapping [1]. The rectangular structure measures 8.5m by 5.5m. It is possible that this lifeboat house has replaced another such feature to the south (MWX44063) that was only visible on the Epoch 2 (1899) mapping [2].
The structure is no longer visible on the later Epoch 4 (1950) mapping [3]. However a lifeboat house, situated to the south, is only visible on the Epoch 4 edition of the mapping (MWX44062), and may be a replacement for the site recorded in this monument.
The structure was given a monument polygon during historic mapping enhancement as part of Phase 1 of the South East Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey.
