Monument record MWX51409 - Second World War roadblock, Dymchurch Road

Summary

A Second World War roadblock consisting of two double rows of anti-tank cubes is visible on aerial photographs of 1942 on Dymchurch Road, at what was at that time the northern end of St Marys Bay. This feature has been mapped from aerial photographs as part of the South East RCZAS NMP project.

Full Description

The road block is centred at TR 0940 2804, just to the north of the point where Dunstall Lane joins Dymchurch Road. It consists of two double rows of anti-tank cubes which completely span the road. The two rows are situated approximately two metres apart. On the northern side of the road block, on the seaward side of the road, a line of anti-tank cubes runs along the edge of the road for approximately ten metres. By the time of the vertical aerial photograph of 1946; the road block and roadside anti-tank cubes had all been removed (1-2).
