Full Description

This stretch of defensive beach scaffolding is centred at TR 0833 2402, and is visible on vertical aerial photographs of 1941 for approximately 845m between TR 0822 2358 and TR 0845 2439. It lies on the seaward side of Marine Parade and Grand Parade, New Romney. It appears to have been contemporary with three small possible anti-aircraft gun emplacements on the beach (Monument Number 1533923); a gun emplacement against the edge of Marine Parade (Monument Number 1477737); a beachfront length of defensive barbed wire (Monument Number 1533960); a possible minefield (Monument Number 1533969); and a second line of beach scaffolding much further out on Romney Sands (Monument Number 1533948). This line of defensive scaffolding appears to have been removed by the time of the vertical aerial photographs of 1946 (1-2).
