Full Description
A pair of Second World War gunposts are visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs taken in 1946, though the site has been levelled on aerial photographs taken in 1966. The site is centred on TR 29376 39910 and comprises a pair of ring shaped banks. This site has been mapped from aerial photographs as part of the South East Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey NMP (Component 2) (1-2).
Their position within a clearly recently active (in 1946) anti aircraft battery means they could be of Second World War date, either pre-dating the late war battery or forming a part of it. They could also be of earlier date, as is possible for the apparent battery to the south. Unfortunately no earlier aerial photo was consulted/available to assist in the dating sequence of this site.
