Full Description
Site of a Second World War light anti aircraft (Diver) battery near Botolphs Bridge. This was armed with 40mm guns, and was manned by 445 Battery of 135 Anti Aircraft Regiment when deployed on 2nd August 1944. It formed part of the Littlestone Section of 43 Anti Aircraft Brigade Light Anti Aircraft Artillery. (1) The Second World War light anti aircraft (Diver) battery may be visible on aerial photographs taken in 1946, as suggested by cropmarks or parchmarks on the ground at TR 1217 3300, though some of these may relate to the other Diver batterys (Monument Number 1477690 and 1477688) that were also located in this area. The cropmarks may relate to the location of the guns and ancillary buildings, but this is not clear. This site was viewed on aerial photographs as part of the South East Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment NMP, but was not mapped due to the unclear nature of the marks on the ground. (2)
