Findspot record TR 36 NW 420 - Bronze Age Finds, Margate

Summary

Ahead of proposed development of the site a limited evaluation and fieldwalking/metal-detectoring survey took place in 1986. The evaluation produced no archaeological remains, however the survey recovered a number of metal finds including several pieces of bronze ingot and part of the blade of a socketed late Bronze Age axe. Further work in 1994 found part of a sword blade.

Full Description

Ahead of proposed development of the site a limited evaluation and fieldwalking/metal-detectoring survey took place in 1986. The evaluation produced no archaeological remains, however the survey recovered a number of metal finds including several pieces of bronze ingot and part of the blade of a socketed late bronze age axe. This may be part of the nearby site TR 36 NW 45. (1)

In 1994 a watching brief found part of a bronze sword. With the earlier finds this may represent the remains of a scattered founders hoard.(1)
