Full Description
An early medieval cemetery associated with the early abbey at Minster (TQ 97 SE 1). The cemetery was in use between the 7th and 9th centuries and there seems to have been at least two phases as several graves were found beneath a wall foundation. Approximately 50 burials were uncovered, the full extent of the cemetery may extent further than the excavation area, aligned east - west. Several had head supports. The burials were in varying states of preservation, but included fourteen males, ten females (six other adults), and three children. One female burial contained the skeleton of a full term foetus. No grave goods were found.(1)
