Full Description

Group of Incorporating Mills buit in 1926 (remained in use until 1934). Mostly built of concrete and iron girders with superstructures of brick and wood. Four pairs of mills and a central motor compartment in each set. A detailed description from 1928 informs us that there were 8 Suspended Runner Mill machines (4 each of ' Kynoch' and 'Chilworth' mill types), powered by 25 hp totally enclosed electric motors. When the works was closed in 1934 some of the machinery was transferred to Ardeer in Ayrshire. Much of the superstructure of the buildings was dismantled at this time and what survives is concrete and brick lower level and the standing walls of brick which formed the rear of the 4 motor houses.(1)
