Summary

The surviving remains of a structure built between 1846 and 1863, used as a cooperage. In the centre of this building was a clock-tower. Later alterations included the insertion of additional openings; the demolition of the north end of the building, retaining the base of the clock-tower; and the blocking of the openings in several stages.

Full Description

The surviving remains of a structure built between 1846 and 1863, used as a cooperage. In the centre of this building was a clock-tower. It incorporated the remains of 2 earlier free-standing brick structures of unknown purpose. One of these earlier structures was built between 1793 and 1844 and is 18m long by 8 m wide. The other is 16.8m long by 8m wide and was added to the south of this between 1846 and 1863. Later alterations (post 1863) included the insertion of additional openings; the demolition of the north end of the building, retaining the base of the clock-tower; and the blocking of the openings in several stages.

The base of the clock tower is 2.1m sq with wallls 35cm thick. It has a door in the west wall. (1)
