Full Description

In 2009 the garage was surveyed as part of a wider programme of building recording at Burgess Hill Farm.

From the report:

"Introduction

The garage stands to the far western corner of the farm complex, is cladded with weatherboard on the exterior, and has limewashed, possibly brick, walls internally (Plate 38). There is a small adjoining room in the south corner of the garage which is partially constructed of red brick. The building is first shown on the 1938 Ordnance Survey map,
and has probably adapted to perform a variety of uses since that date, most recently being used as a garage and store.
9.2 The exterior Externally, the building is cladded with weatherboarding and has a pitched corrugated iron
roof. The small extension to the south corner is also cladded with weatherboarding on its north-east face, but the south-east and south-west elevations are brick. The main entrance to the garage is through a wide entrance in the south-east elevation though the doorway has been removed leaving only a small timber plank doorway to the east of it. There is a timber plank sliding door over the doorway into the small extension. In the north-west elevation of the main garage there is an additional fire exit, which is flanked by long narrow windows with 20th century frames. There is also a timber 20th century window above the main entrance in the south-east elevation and two smaller windows to the small room on the south corner.

9.3 The interior (Figure 27)
The large room of the main garage has plastered and limewashed walls and a concrete floor (Plate 39). The roof is supported by timber A-frame trusses that seem to be later additions, since they obscure some of the earlier windows in the north-east and south-west walls. The small room to the south acts as a small store and has limewashed brick walls
with a sloping roof."
