Monument record TR 26 NE 165 - Sunken floored hut at Sarre

Summary

A sunken featured building was discovered near St. Giles Church to the east of Sarre. The structure had a post hole at each end but no trace of an occupation layer was found over the floor. A section through the accumlated deposits in the hut suggested a staged infill, possibly caused by sporadic dumping. This infill contained animal bone, shells and large fragments of Romano-British tile and worn pot sherds in Iron Age Belgic fabrics. An iron buckle of typical Jutish form was found on the hut floor. Two shallow ditches were also identified at the site and whilst one contained no finds, the other yielded 16th and 17th century pottery, a Jetton token and a Rose farthing of Charles I (see TR 26 NE 239).
