Abstract/Summary
The geophysical survey was carried out in the field between Salmestone Grange and the cemetery, Margate. The survey's objectives were to identify the presence or otherwise and extent of archaeological remains in areas of the field not already trenched and to identify the presence and extent of archaeological remains identified as cropmarks. Additionally it was hoped to determine the extent of the medieval structures associated with Salmestone Grange and the extent of the burials, identified by earlier evaluation work.
The initial scanning survey identified areas of archaeological potential which were then defined by a detailed survey. This revealed a number of possible curvilinear anomalies, possibly associated with burials, subparallel rectilinear anomalies associated with ploughmarks and a discrete anomaly, possibly a large pit. See also Heritage 2004/279b, for results of 2004 survey.
