Abstract/Summary
The report details the result of an archaeological evaluation at the Wharf.
From the Report: "This document details the results of an archaeological evaluation at site of The Wharf, 6 Lyons Crescent, Tonbridge, Kent, TN9 1EX. National Grid Reference TQ 59135 46511. The site is located to the south of Lyons Crescent, with Tonbridge High Street to the west. The River Medway is located directly to the south of the site. The proposed development comprised a scheme of partial demolition and redevelopment of the existing building, the Wharf Riverside bar, to form a four storey block of flats with offices. There will also be an additional four storey building erected to the rear of the existing building, an area which is currently used as a car park. The significance of the buildings relates to the industrial history of the River Medway and Tonbridge. This building contains evidence of its function as a warehouse and wharf building fronting the Medway, although it has been considerable altered from its original form, with alterations to layout and blocking of windows and doors, with additional windows inserted on the second floor to provide light for dwelling spaces."
