Abstract/Summary
The report briefly summarises the excavation and results.
The report details : "A second phase of targeted trial-trenching was requested by Kent CC to test the suggested potential survival of elements of an early, possibly Roman planned landscape represented by the boundary that crosses the eastern part of the PDA. Two other trenches examined the footprint of the line of the proposed conveyor. The locations and dimensions were agreed in advance with Kent CC. The work was carried out ... in June 2015. Each trench was excavated by a 360° excavator fitted with a toothless ditching bucket working under archaeological direction, with soils removed in shallow spits and the spoil stacked alongside the trench. Throughout the works the soil excavation was supervised to ensure the recovery of any artefacts (none were however observed). Excavation proceeded stratigraphically with the ploughsoil removed first and then, where present, lower soils removed in sequence. A photographic record was taken of each trench."
