Abstract/Summary
A rich Anglo-Saxon grave assemblage was found by a metal detectorist on 1st March 2013 at TR 22200 62850. The assemblage consisted of a copper alloy hanging bowl, an iron sword and an iron shield boss, with a silvered terminal and two associated mounts. This was reported to the Kent Finds Liaison Officer. The finds were collected from the finder on 8th March 2013 and taken to the Canterbury Archaeological Trust offices for initial stabilisation and recording. An excavation was subsequently planned in order to investigate the grave and recover any additional associated objects. The excavation was carried out on 26th April 2013. Due to weather conditions on site it was decided not to expand beyond the finder’s hole and instead to record the recent intrusion only. The findings from this work will inform any future larger scale investigation of the site.
