Abstract/Summary
In January 2015 the Canterbury Archaeological Trust (CAT) undertook evaluation trenching ahead of the construction of three new dwellings on land at the junction of Station Road and Nelson Park Road, St Margaret's at Cliffe, near Dover. Two long machine-cut trenches set at right-angles to one another were dug across the site. Three previously dug builder's trenches provided additional information. No archaeological features were revealed apart from a single twentieth-century rubbish pit. A thin layer of clay sealed the natural chalk. This layer produced a limited amount of prehistoric flintwork and is perhaps most likely to represent down-washed material accumulated in the bottom of the valley.
