Abstract/Summary
Report on an archaeological evaluation and watching brief on land at Chaucer House, 25 Knightrider Street, Maidstone, Kent in advance of, and during, the groundworks associated with the construction of a new three-storey extension, drainage and landscaping works. The results of the evaluation and watching brief demonstrated sub surface remains of walls and cellars in certain areas relating to structures associated with All Saints Vicarage and its modifications and repairs up to its demolition in the 1960s. The only
datable in-situ structural (brick and tile) artefacts were of probable 18th to 19th century date. A small number of pits and a linear feature were identified, probably relating to rubbish pits or similar, associated with the medieval to early post medieval Vicarage.
