Abstract/Summary
Seven small archaeological test pits were dug in and around the Glen at Walmer Castle, Kent. Four found surfaces wholly consistent with the network of footpaths shown on a survey plan of 1859. Two of the test pits (2 and 3) also found evidence for backfilled areas of deeper chalk quarrying, suggesting that the chalk pit was deliberately modified at the time that it was converted into a feature of the landscaped grounds at Walmer.
