Abstract/Summary
The excavation at Bredgar Primary School revealed a sequence of occupation from the Late Iron Age to the early Roman period. Initial curvilinear ditches suggest a Belgic enclosure, later replaced by Roman features including ditches, pits, and a flint-founded building. The site saw brief Roman occupation, followed by agricultural use and abandonment. No evidence of later Roman, Anglo-Saxon, or medieval activity was found. Modern features relate to the 19th-century school garden. Finds included pottery, flint tools, and building materials, with environmental samples indicating limited organic preservation but some evidence of cess and coastal resource use. The site adds valuable insight into early Roman rural settlement.
