Abstract/Summary
Evaluation in respect of PA for new leisure facilities on the site of an exisiting swimming pool within the site of the former manor house. The work revealed structural archaeology including wall footings and floor or yard surfaces. Although no in situ datable finds were recovered, demolition layers contained building material, worked stone (Ashlar) suggesting the presence of a stone-built structure in Gothic style. Most of the in situ structural featues can be shown to pre-date the 19th century with some building material databale to the 16th/17th century. No direct link between the burial features and the standing walls to the east of the swimming pool was established, but it seems likely that they belong to the same building complex, possibly forming part of the original manor house.
