Full Description
[TQ 5330 7080] This site lies in the NW corner of the parish of Sutton-at-Hone, Kent, in a field about 1 1/4 miles west of the parish church. A group of four features were located in 1969 during `operation Gas Pipe east', but two other features over 500ft further north may relate in some way. The features are a shallow U-shaped ditch, rectangular pits, a bowl-shaped pit and a small U-shaped ditch. They yielded potsherds, animal bone, pot boilers, carbon and traces of burnt daub. (1) Operation Gas Pipe East - the gas pipe trench from Snodland to Dartford was watched by Fawkham and Ash, Ruxley and West Kent Border groups. The trench at Goss Hill, Sutton-at-Hone revealed a Bronze Ahge/Iron Age site. Six ditches/pits. Only 12 sherds of hand made, grog-filled pottery. Probable farmstead site. (2-3)
