Monument record TR 34 SW 2559 - Avranches Flank and the reconstructed eastern ditch at Dover Castle
Summary
Avranches flank is located on the re-entrant across the non-aligned eastern ditches (from the possible Iron-age defences). It terminates the northern end of the east ditch, above which it rises steeply; on the inside (to the North East). It was reconstructed in the 1790s along the line of the Medieval wall that linked Avranches Tower with Pencester Tower. It is closely linked to Avranches Tower. The Flank is constructed of brick and faced with stone and has two levels designed to the rebuilt ditch as far south as Ashford Flank.
