Full Description
The former site of the military hospital can be clearly seen on numerous plans of the castle, to the south of the Officers New Barracks. It was likley constructed at the same time as the barracks as part of a generous scheme of expansion and modernisation undertaken within the castle during and after the Crimean War (1853-1856). It is visisble on the 1957 Ordnance survey plan of Dover (1) and was liley demolished in the 1960’s along with numerous other garrison buidlings located at the castle. Several archaeological excavations undertaken within the vicinity of this former structure have revealed walls and remains of it. Summarised from sources (2-3)
