Full Description
During archaeological excavations ahead of development at Springhead, a series of unurned cremation burials and features with cremation related deposits were uncovered, dispersed across the excavation area. They were situated within a Bronze Age field system and it is possible that they are associated/contemporary. Many appeared to show close spatial associations with the field boundaries thus may be of a Middle-Late Bronze Age date. Such locations are not unusual for cremation burials of this date. Alongside human bone, redeposited pyre debris and sherds of late prehistoric pottery were also uncovered, as well as some residual later finds including a glass bead of a possible Anglo-Saxon date.
