Full Description

Ditches, gullies and two pits were located in trenches 1 and 3. Some were securely dated, mainly via finds of roof tile and pottery, to c.13th to 15th centuries in the case of the roof tile, and c.1225-1800AD in the case of the pottery. These features were interpreted as irrigation features, bedding and furrows. They indicate medieval activity in the area, particularly within the eastern extents of the site. A fragment of ‘Delft’/tin-glazed earthenware wall tile suggests a moderately prosperous household. Two residual Roman tesserae were also found. (1)
