Summary

Aerial photographs show an extensive complex of ditches and enclosures at Letterbox Field, Maydensole Farm. Archaeological evaluation in 1997 and subsequent excavation in 1998/9 discovered an extensive iron age / Roman settlement covering 4 ha. Features included a building occupied til the 4th century which contained infant burials and a pit containing possible animal deposits.

Full Description

Aerial photographs show an extensive complex of ditches and enclosures at Letterbox Field, Maydensole Farm (1). Archaeological evaluation in 1997 and subsequent excavation in 1998/9 discovered an extensive iron age / Roman settlement covering 4 ha. Features included a building occupied til the 4th century which contained infant burials and a pit containing possible animal deposits. (2-4)
