Archaeological evaluation at Underdown Lane, Eddington in 1999 found evidence of an Iron Age ditch, a pit/post-hole, and a possible cremation.

Two ditches were dated to this period, and another undated ditch is considered to be prehistoric due to the presence of burnt flint within its fill. These comprised features measuring 0.75-3.5m in width and 0.34-0.75m in depth, two of which were aligned E-W, and one of which was aligned N-S.

The small pit or post-hole measured 0.75x0.5x0.12m and contained Iron Age pottery within its fill.

A linear cut measuring 2.5m in width and 0.80m in depth containing fragments of burnt flint and Iron Age pottery has been interpreted as potentially representing a cremation burial. However, this feature might also represent a tree hollow or natural feature.

The majority of these features contained Iron Age pottery within their fills, and burnt flint was also present within one of the ditch fills. An almost complete pot recovered from the fill of a dtich at the site has been dated to around 450-450 BC, and has parallels to Flemish pottery designs of this period. (1)
