Full Description
Post-medieval pits were excavated in 2019 at Deichmann, Canterbury. These are thought to represent activity occurring after the dissolution of the friary in 1538 - either related to the removal of material from the friary or use of the area after the friary church was no longer present. Contained within the fills of the pits was material including peg-tile, mortar, animal bone, shell, and brick fragments.
Earlier activity at the site comprised features possibly associated with the construction of the friary (TR 15 NE 1989), and medieval burials (TR 15 NE 1990) (1).
