Full Description

In March 2019 an archaeological evaluation was carried out consisting of 48 trial trenches, 14 of which revealed archaeological features. Enclosure ditches, pits and post holes consistent with the use of the landscape for agricultural purposes were found together with a 'trample layer'. Dating evidence suggested a late iron age or Romano-British date. No domestic structures were identified.

The number of features discovered was high and not every one was investigated. The features were dated by an assemblage of late iron age and Roman pottery, mostly coarse ware but some finer types too. The dates ranged mainly from c. 50 BC to AD 200. (1)
