Full Description

Possible Anglo-Saxon or medieval post-holes alongside undated features, including a gully, a ditch, pits, stake-holes, and post-holes were excavated at Canterbury College, Main Campus during an evaluation in 2003-2004. The post-holes have been dated on the basis of a single sherd of mid to late Anglo-Saxon Ipswich ware associated with them. A piece of clay pipe was also associated with these features, however, this may be residual from later disturbance.
Two features at the site - a gully and a ditch - contained fragment of medieval Tyler Hill ware dating from 1225-1525 AD. A fragment of Roman grey sandy ware was also excavated from the fill of the ditch. (1)
