Full Description
Mounds and hollows of uncertain, but presumed modern, date were visible as earthworks on the floor of Mile Road Chalk Pit on RAF/106G/UK/1378 V 5087 04-APR-1946. They were recorded as levelled earthworks on Next Perspectives APGB Imagery 07-APR-2021. The features are arranged in an arc towards the base of the chalk pit's east wall. They comprise two mounds alternating with two hollows, and a mound with a ditch alongside. Measuring from about 4.5m to about 14.5m in length, they may represent Second World war use of the chalk pit. They were mapped as part of the Historic England Isle of Thanet project in 2024. (1-2)
