Activity dating to the early-middle Iron age was discovered during excavations at the Tescos super store off Manson Road in Ramsgate. The features include a series of metalled surfaces of small stones mixed with ceramic debris, associated with further gullies and linear diches.

Two features appear to date to the early part of this period, these include a occupation layer which consisted of two layers of metalling and a make up deposit, and a rectangular shaped pit. Slightly later a group of linear features were also identified at the site. The majority of these are aligned in a roughly N-S direction at a variance with the Late Bronze age linear features which were also discovered at this site. Other linear features were identified running parallel on an E-W alignment. Several groups of pits, some post holes and stake holes also appear to date to this period as well as another occupation layer that comprised three spreads of metalled surfaces overlain by a silt layer. The surfaces may be either external or internal, though the lack of any associated post holes suggests that they represent an external hard surface. (information summarised from source)(1)
