Full Description
Late Iron Age to early Roman features including pits, ditches, and linear features were identified during a strip, map, and sample excavation in 2019 at Lakesview Business Park, Hersden. Three pits measuring 0.93-2.2m in length, 0.7-1.9m in width, and 0.06-0.21m in depth, and a series of ditches or linear features measuring 3-10+m in length, 1-1.4m in width, and 0.23-0.5m in depth were excavated. The pits and ditches contained pottery dating from between 1000 BC to 175 AD.
These features and the artefacts associated with them are considered by the authors of the report to represent the transitional period between Late Iron Age and Roman activity at the site.
A further twelve features remained undated, comprising six linear features and six pits. These likely date to some point between the Late Iron Age and Roman periods. (1)
