Full Description

A possible post-medieval to modern northeast–southwest aligned trackway was identified during a field visit at Combe Wood, Winchcombe Down, Godmersham in 2025. The trackway was represented by an earthen bank and a small mound of material. The feature was identified during investigations at a ghost pond site in advance of restoration. The trackway was located directly north and would have original run to the east of the pond.
A trackway is visible on the 4th edition and modern OS maps which may be the feature referenced in the report. However, this trackway could have had earlier origins, and is visible on a number of aerial photographs of the site. Furthermore, the report refers to the trackway as 'former', despite appearing to still be in use on modern OS mapping, suggesting that it could be a different feature. (1)
