Summary

A Neolithic pit was identified during a strip, map, and sample excavation carried out on land off Cockering Road, New Thanington by Oxford Archaeology in 2017. The pit contained small quantities of Middle Neolithic pottery and worked flint.

Full Description

A Neolithic pit was identified during a strip, map, and sample excavation carried out on land off Cockering Road, New Thanington by Oxford Archaeology in 2017. The pit measured 0.58m in diamater and 0.2m in depth and contained small quantities of Middle Neolithic pottery and worked flint. Earlier Neolithic pits were identified to the west (TR 15 NW 2781) during the excavation. Neolithic activity at the site has been interpreted (1) as potentially being associated with woodland clearance at the site. (1)
