Full Description
An evaluation in 1995 of the former County Primary School and National Rivers Authority yard at Dymchurch found evidence of marginal Roman activity. A medieval pit was sealed by a flood deposit which was in turn cut by a later medieval ditch.
A subsequent excavation found that the Roman ditch continued across the area and cut a natural marshy hollow which therefore presumably had dried out by the 1st or 2nd century AD. Thus some of the possibly artificial channels noted between other marshy hollows may have been prehistoric in date, though no material was recovered from them. (1)
