Summary
Two large pits were found during a watching brief on construction of the Manston water pipeline. The fill of the pits contained fragments of oyster and land snail shells. These snail shells were a known Roman import.

Full Description
Two large pits found, the fills containing fragments of oyster and land snail (Helix aspersa) shells. The latter indicates excavation of the pits during or after the Roman period, as the species is a Roman import. (1)
