Summary

The remains of a ploughed out ring ditch cropmark were subject to an archaeological evaluation in 1991. Only two possible pits and the traces of a ditch were found. A watching brief at the site in 1994 revealed post medieval copper alloy objects but also a fragment of a bronze double egged blade. This was dated to the late Bronze Age. Fieldwalking evidence from the area suggests a prehistoric date - possibly in the late Neolithic or early Bronze Age.

Full Description

Arch. evaluation 1991 investigated the site of cropmarks- ploughed out ring ditches, but only found evidence of a vestige of ditch and 2 possible pits. These are interpreted as deep pits within the 1-time enclosure which has been eradicated by agriculture and wind erosion. Fieldwalking evidence suggests a PR presence- Neo/EBA. (1) A 1994 watching brief located PM CU alloy objects and a fragment of bronze double-edged blade, LBA in date. (2)
