Monument record TR 03 NE 61 - Late Bronze Age site at Little Stock Farm

Summary

A late Bronze Age site was excavated in 1999 near Little Stock Farm prior to Channel Tunnel Rail Link construction works. A complex arrangement of archaeological features at the site have been dated to the late Bronze Age and late Iron Age, apparently representing subrectangular settlement enclosures. A number of archaeological features, including ditches and pits were distributed throughout the evaluation area. Dating evidence suggests that these features represent both late Iron Age/early Romano-British and medieval field systems. The former probably extend from a known Iron Age settlement centre located immediately to the west of Station Road, whilst the latter probably extend from a medieval settlement centre at or near the Park Wood Cottage farm buildings at the base of the slope to the east.
