Full Description

The eastern part of the site produced evidence for a late Iron Age/early Romano-British settlement (100BC - 100AD). Features included rectangular and subrectangular enclosure ditches and several post-hole structures, including one small, circular building with a central post, and five four-posters. Other evidence for occupation included a small kiln or furnace associated with metal-working slag, and several storage or rubbush pits. Burial evidence was restricted to a single cremation. The settlement is likely to be a continuation of the site identified during construction of the M20 in the 1950's(1).

(See TQ 85 NW 121 and TQ 85 NW 123)

Cremation remains identified as possible adult male. Cremation is undated but from context may be Late Iron Age or Roman. (3)
