Full Description

A wb carried out during the construction of a new access to land north of Eaglesden Farm revealed evidence for the Romand Road from Rochester to Hastings in the form of a linear cut into the natural, parallel and 6.20m to the west of the present Mill St. There was no sign of a metalled surface but the same fill-type continued beneath the current road. Parallel to the cut and 2.90m to the west was a ditch 0.9m wide with steeply sloping sides with a single fill. There was no dating evidence from either the cut for the road or from the ditch.(1)
