Summary
Watching brief on groundworks associated with residential development on "Dickson Land to the rear of 48 Canterbury Road, Hawkinge. The work identified early Iron Agequarry pits and probable ovens and furnaces, together with traces of settlement. A Late IA/Early Conquest settlement with cremations/pyre deposits and elements of possibly medieval or later field system, was also found.
