Full Description
During August 2000, five evaluation trenches were excavated to determine the extent of the cemetery and the general nature of any archaeological remains in the northern corner of the barracks, not previously investigated. Remains of a substantial basmented structure (identified as the former canteen) were located in one trenchand four archaeological features predating the barracks complex were found in two other trenches. These features consisted of a cremation, probably dating to the Bornze Age, a pit, a ditch and a length of gully. Apart from the cremation, none of these features produced any reliable dating evidence. (1)
