Monument record TR 36 NW 397 - Possible Neolithic/early Bronze Age site, Manston, Acol

Summary

In 1996-7 a medieval farm compound was excavated during work in advance of development at the Kent International Business Park (see TR 36 NW 246). A number of features, a length of ditch and a pit were found. Also found at the site were shells within the pit as well as a layer of ash, and waste flint flakes and hammerstones were recovered from ditch fills across the site. These finds and features suggest that there was earlier activity on the site dating to the Neolithic/early Bronze Age. Activity during this period was also recorded during this phase of work, some 600m to the north (see TR 36 NW 395 and TR 36 NW 396).
