During an evaluation in 1993 along with Romano-British features (TQ 57 SE 146) possible prehistoric pits were also found.(1)

The earliest feature on this site appears to be a ditch, running NE-SW, which was traced for over 120 m. Where the ditch doglegged slightly in shape a 4m entrance was found. The only finds from this feature were fire cracked stones, but it is likely to been of prehistoric date. Across the site a light scatter of struck flints, likely to be of neolithic or bronze age, was recovered. These included two scrapers and two blades.

To the west of the site, two groups of shallow pits were also recorded. Both were cut into brick-earth and sealed by gravel. The northern group were irregular or oval in shape and only three contained artefacts of possible archaeological significance. These were burnt flint and nine small potsherds. The southern group were mostly circular or oval, and most contained small amounts of struck flint. One also contained three tiny fragments of flint-gritted ware. From the evidence is seems likely that there features are of neolithic/bronze age date.(2)
