Full Description
Part of a Roman building was discovered during construction works associated with the A2 at Springhead. It was located along the western side of the branch road which connects the Roman settlement at Springhead with Watling Street to the south. Unfortunately only a small portion of the building was revealed and it seems that much of it was destroyed during the roads construction. The building was constructed using flint and had a plain red tessellated floor. An associated pit was located approximately 5m to the south east of the building (also discovered during the road works). It was covered in a chalk raft/seal and contained part of a bone statuette of Cucullatus which suggests that the building may have been another temple, though this is not certain. (1)
