Full Description
Romano-British settlement evidence was discovered, consisting of pits (some very large), ditches and a small cremation group (comprising four vessels). Some evidence for inhumations was also recorded. A stream bed was identified, running SE across the site. The features were recorded during a Trust for Thanet Archaeology watching brief in 1993-4. This summary was taken from a later watching brief KCC Heritage 2005/193. See also Thanet Reach Business park Development: Archaeological Implications, Desk Based Assessment. (1)
A summary report from the 1993 work records an enclosure ditch and Romano-British pottery from AD 70-175. Possible building remains were found and it was suggested that buildings had stood in the area and that the site was therefore a small village or farmstead. (2)
