Full Description

Area 16: Fifty two ditches were recorded on the site, divided into two principal groups located at the northern and southern end respectively. The northern ditches are part of a rectilinear enclosure system. At the southern end of the site a large number of ditches were on a north-west/south-east alignment. One was a very large ditch,c 7.5m wide and 1.75 m in depth and there was little variation in the size of the ditch. A number of other ditches were located close to this, all appear to be reworking of the same boundary. The siz and depth of the ditch may also indicate that it was excavated as a defensive boundary. Seventy three pits were recorded on site, forty five of these were enclosed by a boundary ditch and assocaited with the Romano-British landscape. Remains of a possible WW1 ant-aircraft station were also recorded. (1).
