Monument record TQ 67 SE 283 - A post pit containing backfill of ninteenth and twentieth century date, Gravesend

Summary

A post pit of 1.08m depth containing backill of porous clinker-like material, and pieces of tile, glass and pottery, all of nineteenth and twentieth century date, and a shallow ditch producing no datable material were the only two features exposed in one of three trenches cut during an archaeological evaluation in the grounds of Ifield School, Singlewell, near Gravesend. A re-deposited "pyramid" flint core of probable Mesolithic or Neolithic date was recovered from the subsoil in the same trench, probably indicative of prehistoric activity on or near the site.
